Good morning! We are easing into the brand new year of 2023 with a set of fresh eyes and with a slow and leisurely conversation with me, the Founder of House of Serendipity CA. Although I am usually not a morning person, the promise of some good coffee and a delicious morning meal can persuade me to get up in the early morning hours. Thus, for a change, I am conducting an early morning breakfast Q & A session covering one of my favorite topics in the world: Food!

WHICH MEAL DO YOU PREFER, BREAKFAST OR LUNCH?

Neither! Actually, I am a slow starter in the morning but I do like to get in a good meal before lunch so one of my favorite meals is a hearty brunch meal.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO GET BRUNCH IN THE CITY OF TORONTO, CANADA?

Because of my busy schedule, I usually end up grabbing brunch while I am on the go. However, that doesn’t mean I am going to neglect my taste buds or ignore one of the most important meals of the day for me. Therfore, one of my favorite places to obtain some brunch in the city is at the Brick Street Bakery which is located in the historic Distillery District in downtown Toronto.

In particular, I adore their butter croissants!

WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT THESE CROISSANTS?

There are croissants and then there are croissants. The butter croissants from the Brick Street Bakery are, for me, simply out of this world. Somewhat larger and fluffier than the average croissant, these butter croissants are hands down definitely one of the best croissants that I have discovered in the city and quite possibly one of the best croissants that I have eaten anywhere in the world. The many crust filled layers of this croissant also adds to their gastronomic appeal. Another delectable selection from this bakery is their almond croissants which would make a delightful option for breakfast, brunch or an afternoon snack.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER PLACES YOU LIKE TO GO FOR A QUICK BITE IN TORONTO?

Conveniently, my other favorite place for a quick brunch is located within The Distillery District. Located just a quick stroll from the Brick Street Bakery, Arvo Coffee is another one of my favorite places in Toronto to drop by for a quick and savory bite. A small and cozy coffee, they offer coffee and other seasonal beverages along with one of my favorite brunch menus in town. In particular, I have a fondness for their Avocado Toast and adding a soft poached egg to the toast certainly makes my day better. Arvo Coffee’s brunch menu is served daily from 8AM to 4PM at its Distillery District location.

BRUNCH SOUNDS GREAT, BUT WHERE DO YOU GO FOR AN AFTERNOON SNACK?

For a tasty afternoon snack, I have another Canadian patisserie in mind. Amadeus Patisserie is an European style pastry store and cafe in the city which serves various coffee drinks, teas and numerous dessert items such as cakes, macarons and croissants. Their almond croissants and hazelnut praline croissants make for a delightful meal or snack and the patisserie’s cakes are known for their exquisite and aesthetically pleasing appearance. In addition, once in a while on special occasions, the bakery will serve special products such as the Sufganiyot Napoleon which is essentially a Napoleon served in a donut style way.

Have a wonderful spring season and enjoy your breakfast!

Eiko
